Say goodbye to all this if Lane gets their way!
Note that there are 25 photos here and they may take some time to load onto your computer's screen.
Bradley directs the scene while everyone ignores him.
Scott Leach from Lane and the invisible lawyer (Leach said twice on the visit that Lane's lawyer was not present. The fellow on the left is one of Lane's lawyers. He accompanied us on the whole trip).
Max to starship. Beam me up at once!!!
Leach stops the bus to show us where the new road will come out. We cannot get off the bus to inspect it.
Traffic jam at the gate.
The Long March!
Ferns grow in damp, moist areas.
Bridge over Davis Stream. Lane proposes to replace this bridge so that their 48 truck trips a day plus at least 24 trucks a day of their customers (a use that is expressly prohibited by our Land Use Ordinance) can make it in without falling into Davis Stream.
Looking south (left) and north (right) along Davis Stream.
Looking into Davis Stream. Look closely, there's a giant tadpole in the water!
Ain't no farm or forest land here!
Part of a series of wetlands adjacent to the site. The run off from the proposed operation will end up here.
Approach to the proposed operation site from the wetlands.
Entrance to the proposed operation site. We are here! This is where the asphalt mixing plant (a use that is expressly prohibited by our Land Use Ordinance) is proposed to be. Lane's lease will allow them maximum profits at minimal expense , significantly boosting their $300 million annual bottom line, while leaving the responsibility of the slag and tailings and other environmental problems, including a deep, dead pond, to the Vanner family. The Vanners will get the equivalent of a low-to-moderate annual wage. The Town of Washington will get an increase in taxes estimated to gradually rise to $2,900 per year (once the operation is at full development, after which it will revert to present tax levels) plus an increase in our road repair bill estimated to be well over that figure annually. What a deal!
Part of the infamous clearcut. The cement mixing plant (a use that is expressly prohibited by our Land Use Ordinance) is proposed to be sited here.
The Lane guys gave a very thorough tour of how they intend to rape the land. Thanks, guys!
Top of the knoll, 310 feet above sea level. So long, it was good to know you!
One of the neighboring houses in the distance.
We are entering the proposed quarry (a use that is expressly limited by our Land Use Ordinance to being no more disruptive than a similar use in the district, which there aren't any) site. Everything you see here will be dug up and carted away forever, including the old Town Road.
Sighting the markers near the proposed rock crusher (a use that is expressly prohibited by our Land Use Ordinance) site.
View from the site to the Vanner Farm. This operation should improve the health of the children who live there. NOT!

Read my lips! NO NEW MINING OPERATIONS IN OUR FORESTS AND ON OUR FARMS!!
